A common cause of inkjet printer problems is blocked jets. If you turn your printer off when you've finished with it you may not have this problem as some printers perform a cleaning cycle on power up.
If you leave your printer on all the time, you're not only contributing to climate change, but you'll occasionally waste expensive paper because of blocked jets. It's easily diagnosed and fixed (though it uses up more of your precious ink) using the test and maintenance routines provided in most printer drivers.
