SkyOrive, OirSync Word files, Excel sheets or PowerPoint presentations occupy less space, but they are the ones that are frequently modified. So, even if you do back them up, the probability that update doesn't reflect in the latest backup copy is pretty high. The Windows Live service comes in handy in such situations, with 5 GB of storage space. It has a simple premise and easy to use interface. Login with your Windows Live ID and follow the link 'Add files'. Then pick the folder where you want to store the files, use the browse button to locate them on your drive and finally click the upload button and you're done.

Office documents aren't the only files that can be uploaded, it's also possible to upload images and music files, as long as they are less than 50 MB. Now, storing files online might not be everybody's cup of tea. After all, sharing personal information or intimate secrets over the Internet isn't always safe.

Smaller files can easily be stored and protected on a USB stick. Data from a portable flash drive with the hard disk in just a few clicks. To start the program, open up the command prompt from 'Start I Run I cmd. exe', browse to its installation directory.
Then, press [Enter] to start the backup process. All the commands available in this tool are visible when the command 'dirsync -h' is entered.
