XMind is as an open source freeware which is an extremely useful brainstorming and mind mapping tool. Developed by XMind Ltd, you can use the application to create mind maps, fish bone diagrams, tree diagrams, organization charts, logic charts and even spreadsheets. You can open and edit a FreeMind mind map (MM file) with XMind. The latest version of the application is XMind 3. The application is platform independent and hence there are versions available for Windows, Linux and MAC as. There are separate versions available for portable devices as well. You can add live hyperlinks to your mind maps .
You can use and edit the mind maps created with a MM (FreeMind mind maps) or MMAP (Mind manager file) extensions with XMind.
CONS:
The spreadsheet format makes no sense and tends to disorganize your mind map.
File size is very large and the application requires at least 100MB of free space for installation.
