East-Tec Backup 2009 is a complete and easy-to-use backup and restore suite for Windows.
It is a very strong .and promising utility which can back up all your important documents. emails. program settings and much more. Let's look at some of its features and what more this application can handle.
Features
The East-Tec Backup 2009 program can handle much more than other traditional backup and restore utilities. For starters. it features the regular incremental and differential backup modes. The program has numerous backup solutions-specific files and/or folders. registry keys. emails and user settings such as such as defal.!lt audio/ video players. document editors. IMs. browsers. and utilities can be selected. It also has the ability to back up Windows settings such as scheduled tasks, fonts. desktop links. wallpapers. connections and many more. Data can be backed up to various locations-local folders/hard drives. networked storage devices. FTP, and removal storage devices such as a USB drive, CD, and so on. The backups can be regular file copies or archived into a compressed zip with the option of 128¬bit AES encryption and passwords.
Creating tasks for each type of backup is a breeze. The menu interface is friendly and can be easily followed by a new user. The interface is straightforward with four simple sections-'Backup', 'Restore', 'My Tasks' and 'Sync'. Creating tasks is simple and requires no additional knowledge at all. Each task can be defined with schedules which can define backups to be performed at a particular time of day, date, day of week, at startup/shutdown of Windows. or after a particular number of hours or days too.
Each task can be defined to run at a particular interval and if the task is interrupted by any cause, it can alert the Administrator/user either onscreen or sent via email. You can also define the custom path for the temporary files to be generated in case the default C drive is running short of disk space.
Restoration of the backed up data is quite simple too. Just select the restore option and choose from the list of individual files and folders to be restored or just restore everything. An additional feature included with East-Tec Backup 2009 is synchronization of data. You can set tasks for syncing data between folders, drives, network paths and so on by specifying criteria such as data, data and CRC values, prompt for action. or copy according to priority defined (newest/oldest file to be copied or direction of synchronizing).
Performance
We created a task and defined backups of the desktop folder, the complete Windows registry, and a few user settings such as email, media players and image viewers. The backup destination was defined on the same hard drive but on a different partition. The task was configured to compress the data into ZIP format and the total amount of data to be backed up was around 1.3 GB. Our test ran at the defined time and not only backed up the data but compressed from 1.3 GB to 970 MB. Files were backed up to the defined destination in just 3 minutes and 17 seconds. Although it was fast and precise, the process of backing up used almost 60 percent of the CPU's capacity. while the memory used was around 130 MB. When the task is not running, the utilization of the processor is minimal, but memory usage is still a bit too high at around 100 MB.
