    Default Corrupted user profile

Google Chrome often crashes when I am in the middle of something. This causes a break in communication with my online contacts and delays my work considerably. A message saying, 'Check whether you need a new browser user profile'is displayed on the screen. What does this indicate? Do I need to reinstall the browser. Please help.

No, you do not need to reinstall the browser. The reason Google Chrome crashes quite often is a corrupted user profile. You can try restarting the browser, but if the problem still persists, then follow the steps below:

    Click 'Start I Run'.

In the 'Run' dialog box enter the following values, based on your operating system.

If your operating system is are using Windows XP, type '%USERPROFILE%\ Local Settings\Application Data\ Google\Chrome\User Data'.

If you are using Windows Vista, type '%LOCALAPPDATA%\Google\Chrome\ User Data'.
    Click 'OK'.

The 'User Data' window will open up on your screen.

Here, you will notice a folder named 'Default'.

Right-click the folder and click 'Rename'. Enter the new name as 'Backup' and press the [Enter] key.

Right-click the folder named 'Backup' and click 'Cut'.

Click the 'Up' button on the standard tool bar to navigate to the folder that is one step above, i.e. to the 'Chrome' folder).

Paste the copied file here by holding the key combination [Ctrl] + [V].
