LAST FEBRUARY SPYERASER 1.1 fROM Uniblue Systems was given a one star, the lowest possible rating. Uniblue re¬cently updated a number of its products, including the online Uniblue ProcessLibrary, and SpyEraser itself. Yet the SE2
scored substantially worse on my tests, probably because my latest collection of malware includes more of the seriously nasty items.

I loaded SE2 on a collection of test sys¬tems infested with a range of malware including adware, spyware, Trojans, rootkits, and rogue antispyware. At least the installation was quick! SE2's installer was not balked by a particular sample that eauses trouble for almost all security products. And another system, rendered unstable by malware, did not go into a blue-screen death spiral, the way it often does in testing. This seemed to be an auspicious start, but things went downhill from there.

I could go into more detail about the SpyEraser 2's Vista-inspired user interface. I could comment that the not-quite-English messages I reported in earlier version Spy Eraser 1.1 are mostly gone (though every Live Guards pop-up offers to "Remeber" your answer). But the bottom line is this: Although the updated program is no longer a psycho killer, it's still wretchedly bad at the job it was designed to do
