WHEN your data runs into multiple screens, you can use the 'freeze panes' feature of MS Excel to ensure that row headers are visible irrespective of the row on which you are while viewing or editing your data. But if you need to have the same effect on your printed reports, there is more than one technique to achieve this result. Some of these tricks are listed below, you can use anyone of them as per your requirements.
The first technique involves using frozen panes. To use this feature, carry out the following steps:
~ Open the spreadsheet that needs to be printed.
~ Go to the 'View' tab.
~ Click on the 'Freeze Panes' option appearing under the 'Window' group.
~ Click the 'Freeze Top Row' option from the drop-down list.
~ Click the 'Office Button' and select the 'Print' option from the drop¬down list.
~ Select the 'Print Preview' option from the adjacent panel and proceed to print the file.
The second technique involves using fixed rows while printing. To use this feature, carry out the following steps:
~ Open the spreadsheet that needs to be printed.
~ Go to the 'Page Layout' tab.
~ Click on the small arrow appearing near the 'Page Setup' group of the tab.
~ Click the 'Sheet' tab in the 'Page Setup' dialog box.
~ Click on the arrow appearing at the end of the 'Rows to repeat at top:' text appearing under the 'Print tiles' section of the dialog box.
~ Click 'OK' and proceed to print your file.
NOTE:
The option is disabled if you try to access the 'Page Setup' dialog box from the 'Print Preview' window.
NOTE:
To print row numbers and column alphabets along with your data, check the 'Rowand column headings' option appearing under the 'Print tiles' section in the 'Sheet' tab of the 'Page Setup' dialog box.
