PRINTING can prove to be quite an expensive job in most cases. This is because it involves a continuous feed of paper and continuous replacement of ink cartridges or toners. Hence it is important to make sure that you use these resources wisely and sparingly, especially if your job involves excessive printing. Mozilla Firefox has an add-on ensuring that you print only those elements on a webpage that you
need. This saves both ink and paper by eliminating elements like images, advertisements, banners and other objects that may be quite unnecessary in your prints. It's called the 'Lexmark Toolbar'. The tool bar asks you which elements you would like to omit from the output and prints the pages based on your customized selection. Follow these steps to install and configure the Lexmark Toolbar to ensure that you optimize the usage of your printer,
~ Launch Mozilla Firefox.
NOTE: Lexmark Toolbar is compatible with all versions of Mozilla Firefox from vl.5 to the recent v3.5.
~ On this page click the 'Add to Firefox' button.
~ On the next page click 'Accept and Install'.
~ Wait for the 'Install Now' button to be enabled and click it.
~ Restart Firefox once the installation completes for the changes to take effect.
~ On restarting, the Lexmark Toolbar appears under the address bar.
Click 'Preferences'. Lexmark refers to the removal of elements as 'cleaning'. Under the 'Cleaning Options' check those entries that you would like to remove from your webpage. You can also change text alignment on your webpages through the 'Text alignment' dialog box. This comes into play when there is vacant text left after an object has been cleaned. The next section asks you 'When to Auto-clean'. Select the appropriate checkbox. Similarly, in 'What to Print' check the checkboxes that contain the elements that you would like to include into the final prints. Click 'OK' to save these changes. On the Lexmark Toolbar click 'Clean' to remove the elements from the page that you are viewing. To see a preview of the page that will be printed click 'Preview'. When you are satisfied with the results click 'Print'. The Lexmark Toolbar also provides direct link to Picnik.com, a popular image editing site.
