When attempting to install Office 2000 on a PC running Windows 2000 or Windows NT 4.0, you may be prompted to put in Microsoft Office 2000 CD and then get error messages shown below:

Installer Information

Error 1706. No valid source could be found for product Microsoft Office 2000 Premium. The Windows installer cannot continue.

Microsoft Office 2000 Installation: Fatal Error
Installation ended prematurely because of an error.
Add/Remove Programs

Fatal error during installation.

This may be caused by various things:

• You have tried to utilize an aspect that is not installed on PC, but aspect is set to be installed on initial use, or you run Office 2000 Setup and select to either repair or reinstall Office 2000.

• When Office 2000 Setup runs, you have wrong CD is in drive. E.g. if you are running Microsoft Office 2000 CD1 Setup, CD2 is in drive.

• As you are prompted to put in right CD, you take out wrong CD; insert right CD, and click Ok.

• Version 1.1 of Windows Installer is installed on PC.

• This difficulty can also happen if you try to utilize clip art that is stored on Office 2000 CD2, when CD2 is not in drive.

To fix this problem, follow these steps

1. Close all of the error messages.

2. Leave the right Office 2000 CD in PC drive.

3. Begin Microsoft Office 2000 Setup either by trying to utilize install on first use
part that before tried to utilize, or by running Office 2000 Setup from Add/Remove Programs icon. You can try to use clip art that before tried to utilize.
If right CD is in drive when Windows Installer begins running, problem will not happen.
