you are working with confidential data, it is recommended that you password protect such files. Word lets you create separate passwords for opening and editing files. Here's how:
~ Click the 'Office' Button.
~ Clickthe 'Save As' option from the drop-down list.
~ Click the 'Tools' option on the 'Save As' dialog box.
~ Click 'Gener.al Options' from the drop-down list.
~ Set the required passwords as per your requirements. Click 'OK'.
