The new GDATA Secrity Suite 2010 has also gone through a much needed makeover that makes navigating between settings a breeze. To make things simple and easy the main menu is divided into three different sections with the topmost being Virus check followed by Updates and finally Internet, which includes important aspects such as Web/ Phishing protection, Firewall, Email/Spam protection and Parental Control. Changes to these settings can't get any easier since each category can be individually changed from the status window itself.

On the performance front, the G-Data Internet Security Suite 2010 performed well during scans and consumed less than 30 MB of memory when idle though there were instances when the system paused for a brief period during a manual scan. Scan speeds are also decent with the Suite taking approximately 8 minutes to scan 17 GB of data. The only confusion that a user would face in case of detection would be the removal of the infection since the interface itself doesn't have a remove or clean button nor is there a selection box to select multiple infections. You will actually have to double click each infection to be able to clean or quarantine. Even though the process can be automated via the scan options it would make life a little simpler if options such as remove and clean were implemented. The firewall is unobtrusive and automatically selects the most appropriate setting for applications that need Internet access. The Parental Control included with the Suite allows you to set permissions where you can adjust the time frame to access not only the Internet usage but also user login. Detection rates have also improved significantly with fewer false positives taking the overall percentage to 99.8% (as reported by AV Comparatives).

All in all this new and improved Security Suite does a good job at keeping your desktop or even laptop secure without compromising on performance.
