It is a known fact that defragmenting the hard drive not only keeps your system up and running but also prolongs the overall life of your system. While Windows has a built-in defragmentation tool it doesn't quite defragment files thoroughly. This is where Raxco's PerfectDisk comes in. This ingenious little defrag tool installs with no fuss and provides a brief and precise configuration wizard that allows you to choose a setting that best fits your need. It basically consists of two options that allow you to choose a configuration either for a notebook or desktop Pc. Rather than limiting itself only to hard disks the program also allows you to defragment USB, firewire and flash drives.
The layout is divided into three distinct sets. The top consists of tabbed menus, the middle displays a list of drives that are currently connected and the bottom half gives you a representation of files that are fragmented along with an overall percentage of fragmentation. Drives can be defragmented in three different ways; SMARTPlacement (default) - optimizes as well as consolidates free space; Consolidate Free Space - aggressively consolidates free space and Defrag Only defragments fragmented files.
The AutoPilot Scheduling on the other hand seamlessly scans for drive fragmentation in the background thereby eliminating the need to depend on the program manually.
