The normal font list in Word is not very helpful when you are trying to choose a new font for a document because you can only see the font names, which give no indication of what the fonts look like.
Applying fonts individually is frustrating and takes a lot of time. There is an option that will tell Word to display a preview of the fonts in the Fonts menu from the toolbar. Click on the Tools menu and then Customise. Click on the Options tab, left click in the box labelled List font names in their font so that a tick appears. Click on the Close button to save the changes. The fonts will now appear in that dropdown menu.
Sometimes there may be a pause as the fonts are loaded. Word should also show a preview in the styles menu both in the normal document view and when choosing a font when modifying an existing style.
