    Default Virus Problem

Two months back, three viruses - Khatarnakh, Ghost and Xplorer attacked my Pc. The Khatarnakh virus spawned a process called khatra. exe and the other two viruses spawned ghost. exe and xplorer.exe. These viruses have disabled my Control Panel and are not letting me change any settings. I tried opening it from C:\Windows\System32\ control. exe, but it just displays a warning window with the message This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions on your computer. Please contact your system administrator.

In fact, there is no Control Panel icon on my desktop. I deleted the viruses from all the locations and even removed the registry entries. After deleting the viruses, other shortcuts such as [Alt] + [F4] have got enabled. I cannot even set my Desktop background and also the title bar of Internet Explorer displays "Internet Exploiter" instead of "Internet Explorer".

The registry editor is also disabled. I access it from "TuneUp Utilities 2008" software. My system has an Intel Celeron M Processor 530, 512MB DDR2 RAM, and Windows Vista Ultimate Edition.

The virus problem is a little too complicated to get rid of manually. It would be easier to install an anti-virus solution from Kaspersky, ESET or G DATA. You should use an antivirus to remove the infection. If all fails, you might have to do a clean install of Windows.
