ARE YOU WONDERING why someone would spend over a thousand rupees for a heats ink when it is included in a box CPU package? Well, if you take overclocking and/or silent PC operation seriously, the stock heats ink and fan will not quite cut it and you will need a specialized cooler. We received one such cooler, the GlacialTech Igloo 5750 Silent edition for review (a faster PWM edition is also available). In our tests run on the Intel Pentium 0920, (known for high heat dissipation) the cooler managed to keep CPU temperature below 67°C when overclocked by 20 percent to 3.84GHz. With the stock cooler, the CPU temperature hovered over 80°C and at times fell just short of the 90°C mark, registering 88-89°C.
In both cases, we had turned off the CPU fan control to let the fans run at their fastest speed and the ambient temperature was kept constant by our air conditioner. The more practical use for this cooler will be to use it with a budget low end CPU and overclock it to speeds of a more expensive model. The Igloo 5750 will fit on Intel LGA 775 based motherboards and AMD-based motherboards right from socket 754 to the latest AM2 and the F-socket for Opterons. The cooling design is based on two 92mm fans fixed on either side of the main heatsink. The operation was silent, even at 1300 rpm (the highest rated rpm for the Silent edition is 1400 rpm). The PWM edition of this cooler has a higher rated maximum speed of 2500 rpm.
