WinZip Computing launched the version 12.0 of its popular file compression and storage utility, targeting digital media users. Apart from interface refinements, WinZip has introduced new compression algorithms, like the Lempel¬Ziv-Markov chain Algorithm. A new lPEG algorithm in version 12.0 can compress images by up to 25 per cent without compromising quality, according to the firm. WinZip 12.0 adds support for the 72, CD/DVD ISO and IMG disk image file formats, and a new password policy for compressed archives allows customisation of the encryption password requirements to achieve a desired password complexity. With the Pro version system administrators can also specify which encryption methods are available to each user, and can disable the encryption features completely during MSI installation. Both versions are available for Windows XP and Vista. The Standard version costs around Rs. 1,654 and the Pro version comes for about Rs. 2,482.
