The front power and reset buttons must be connected to the motherboard. Their wires are often entwined with the hard disk's light and internal speaker wires. These cables should have small black fittings labelled PWR SW (for power button), RST SW (for reset), HDD LED (for the hard disk activity light) and so on. These fittings plug onto a series of exposed pins (called jumper switches) on the motherboard consult the motherboard manual to find the precise location of these jumpers. Most cases also include a selection of USB, audio and Firewire ports on the front for convenience. They attach to the motherboard in the same way as the power buttons, but to a different set of jumpers.
