Zonelabs ZoneAlarm Free is a freeware edition to the most popular firewall solution. However, on the site it isn't the easiest to spot among several paid software suites.
With ZoneAlarm, you don't need to be a network engineer to understand how to set it up. The program is very easy to configure and setup. After restart, certain programs are automatically configured such as the default Windows services and Internet browsers.

From here on, ZoneAlarm sits and alerts you of every program trying to access the Internet which you can easily
set to 'Always allow' or just 'Allow' temporarily. Many programs are of course unknown to the user but ZoneAlarm displays the file path name including the .exe name which an alert user can easily spot and take appropriate action against.



Firewall control has two simple settings, one for the Internet with higher security enabled and one for the local network with description of both which should be great for most average users. However, further features can be unlocked only if the Pro version is downloaded.
