THIS FREE PROGRAM just out of Microsoft Research labs allows you to view satellite imagery from telescopes around the world and take a glimpse into the heavenly bodies. It is similar to the interface of Google Sky, but offers a host of night sky images that you can see out ofthe box. A ribbon interface on the top has a set of thumbnail previews from popular telescopes like Hubble, Spitzer and Chandra, and also a bunch of studies and sky surveys. The menu bar at the bottom has links to view the sky, a panorama, or any planet. But the imagery of Earth isn't very detailed, though. You can get 3D co-ordinates for any heavenly body, take guided tours, and even join public communities on astronomy. And the list doesn't stop there. Students and academicians will especially like the approach WorldWide Telescope takes in charting the sky.
