Thread: Planning to Dispose my computer

I have an old computer and I am planning to dispose of it, but I don't want to waste its components like the hard disk, RAM, motherboard, etc. My PC is a branded HP computer and hence no vendor is willing to purchase it. Can I use the hard disk and connect it to my new computer using USB? If yes, then how can I do it? Kindly, let me know how I can utilize myoid PC in the best possible manner rather than disposing of it at a scrap yard.

You can use the old hard drive by removing it carefully from the old cabinet and using an IDE to USB connector. You can also use an external 3.5-inch hard drive case that converts a regular internal hard drive into an external USB hard drive. It should cost you around Rs 600. If your old system is working, you can use it to just play music or surf the Internet. Let other people at home practice or learn about computers on it. If you have an internet connection, you can network it with your new computer and two people can surf the Internet simultaneously.

You can also use the older computer for only downloading data. Why don't you consider giving it away as charity7 There are a lot of organizations that deal with underprivileged children or schools which are in need of computers. Also you can check if somebody you know requires a PC but cannot afford to have one. Ensure your private data is deleted or format the hard drive before you give it away.
