Preparing the design
Applying the same design to any laptop is difficult; so you may have to alter your choices of hardware to suit the specific model. Use two acrylic sheets and let there be at least a 40 mm (1.5-inch) gap between the two to accommodate the motherboard. Let's think of the lid and the motherboard mount .The outer surface will hold the screen. Use the big metal spacer-referred
to as 'studs' at hardware stores-to create the gap. The ones we used are an inch in diameter each. Various types of spacers are available; the ones we used had nuts and bolts to fasten them.
Place a spacer at the top left corner (an inch away from the edge) and trace an outline. Do the same for the bottom right corner. Now let's mark we can mount the metal plate with the motherboard on it. Place it dead center of the acrylic sheet. Make marks on the sheet through the holes on motherboard and the chassis. These marks will be used to paste acrylic blocks, which will accommodate smaller spacers to secure the motherboard.
TIP
The advantage of making these marks beforehand is that you can have a carpenter help you with the drilling if you don't have the tools.
