Cooler Master HAF932

An imposing figure in the world of cabinets, the HAF 932 from Cooler Master stands tall at nearly two feet and weighs a little over 13 kg. Targeted at mostly gamers and enthusiats, the HAF 932 comes with three huge fans, options for water cooling, and heaps of expansion bays.

Built like a prehistoric mammoth, the case has a black .r:natte finish and sports a large 230 mm fan with red LEDs right in front of the hard drive bays. Take a closer look and you'll find that this monster sports a fan at every possible space: you'll find the 230 mm fans on the front, top and side of its body, and another 140 mm one on the rear panel. Also, the side fan can be replaced with four 120 mm fans while the top as well as bottom can be fitted with two more. 50 if you get your calculations right, the case has support for at least ten fans. The HAF 932 also gives you the option to install a water cooling system either on top or on the bottom. The case has enough room for up to five hard drives and six optical drives. Even the power supply can be placed either at the bottom or on top; though having the P5U on top will require you to remove one 230 mm fan. That said, the 932 HAF has enough breathing space to allow everything to run at maximum settings while still maintaining a reasonable interior temperature.

On the outside, you'll find the power switch placed on top with the reset button right next to it. A rubberized tray is just behind the two buttons can be used for storing extra screws as well as other small items. If you remove the detachable rubber padding, you will find an inlet for a water cooling tank. The front panel is home to four USB, one firewire and one eSATA port, with mic and headphone connections as well. Placing tihs case on a desk wouldn't be advisable since it will force you to stretch quite a distance to access the various ports placed on top.

The 932 HAF has a toolless design that allows you to snap your drives in without a screwdriver. The S.2S-inch drive bays come equipped with finger-press buttons for quick installation and removal. Even installing expansion cards is pretty straightforward; all one needs to do is to press a lever to release the lock, insert the card, and then snap the lever back into place. Weighing around 13 kilos, the HAF 932is a little heavy when empty, but fill it up and you will be thankful that Cooler Master threw in a set of wheels! The four small flat stands can be unscrewed to fit the wheels, which are also lockable. The base on which the motherboard is screwed has a couple of strategically placed holes that allow you to route all wires neatly through the panelling.

One can easily see that a lot of thought has gone into building the 932 HAF. The removable racks onto which the hard drives are fitted come with anti-vibration pads that absorb shock and dampen noise when the drive is spinning. Apart from its remarkable cooling capabilities, the overall design makes setting up a new rig a walk in the park. There's even an access hole just where the CPU sits, making installation of a heatsink backplate a breeze. Enthusisasts will appreciate all the neat design touches, but ordinary users will balk at the price.
