    Default Bios/boot Help?

ok I'm not very good at this but I'm learning. I looked around for the problem but no luck. What happen was that i was playing a game(Half-life2), it works fine and all but a few days ago my comp froze/crashed while playing half-life2. So i restarted my comp and all a sudden i get "something/system32/system file is missing or corrupted, please press "R" to repair" something like that. But i couldn't find my window xp disk until this morning, so i just restarted my computer on the part "press R to repair". When my computer starts up to that part where it shows the window xp logo and the loading bar above it, it just takes very long to load and than it restarts. It does the same thing over and over.I looked around and some people in posts said to do a Recovery Console. In Bios/boot i have this:1. Atapi CD-ROM [None]2. Removable Device [LS120]3. ODE Jard Drive [Maxtor]4. Other Boot Device [ Int18 Device(Network)]Nothing in Atapi CD-ROM [NONE]? how do i fix that?

CD-ROM shows none, yet it still booted from the XP disk? or did it fail to read? You could check the connections on the back of the CD drive, try another auto-detect in the BIOS, or try another drive to see if that helps. It might even help to erase the CMOS so it's forced to re-detect all drives connected.

The BIOS/CD-ROM issue I'm not sure about as I would need more info regarding which BIOS you have, etc. But, as far as the system32 issue is concerned, here are some links to some sites with very good info on repairing your system32, etc.http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic8356.htmlhttp://www.aitechsolutions.net/winxpnoboot.html#rstxp2boothttp://icrontic.com/articles/repair_windows_xphttp://www.retosphere.de/tipsandtricks/ntfserror.php?menu_id=24&I used the last one to repair a particularly difficult problem on Windows 2000 Pro. Using a Knoppix Live DVD I was able to repair the file system and not lose any data. This was a big deal as the PC owner did not have the original install CD. Knoppix is a GREAT Linux distro and repair tool.
