Thread: Problem occuring inSony Vaio laptop CPU usage

In short the System process which was using the 80%+ CPU usage, so I finally broke down and then reinstalled the windows. So no this is not the malware, spyware or a virus. BTW I also tried using the Sony's restore from the partition program but it failed, so I built an XP home with the sp2 disc with nlite and ryanvm's update pack so that it had all the updates from the get go. Let me repeat, this is a CLEAN windows XP home with the sp2 install and the problem persists. Any ideas about how to carry on from here? In my Google searches I also found a comparable example where the guy used preview or some such program to break down the process and find the 2 offending with the drivers that were soaking up the resources. Can anyone explain to me how to do that?

clean? how can clean are we talking here...clean with the sony's restore CD, which may have the other software, or clean as in a retail XP install which only has the XP system process generally contains kernel mode processes where it's harder to detect...you can also use this proggy to break it down more which maybe to see what's going on the cpu spike and also about the occurrence as soon as you log in, or takes time to come up, does it ensue in safe mode...generally this is caused by a kernel mode driver...anti-virus, any application which runs in privileged mode.

I considered that I was clear about this but it just restated me: This is a clean CD install, using an XP disc, not the sony restore option. Also keep in mind that no anti virus has been installed, and the firewall disabled. As for when the problem emerge it depends, occasionally not for a minute or two, other times the right away. Right now its always occurring, keep in mind the cpu temp stays at 60~ C while its been in use, I’m sure that isn’t helping.

Alright lastly got in with some touchpad and found the kmixer.sys 0x21f0 sucking up 50% cpu, Google search which lead me to find that it was at the least linked to a kernel audio driver (as most mixers are), uninstalled the sigmatel audio driver and for now the problem is gone. Now do some hardcore web surfing to make sure it doesn't come back. Okay the next problem, I can’t get the video card drivers to install. The notebook uses an Nvidia Go 7400 GPU but the drivers from the product support page which fail to install. Same thing with the nvidia 84.63 forceware drivers. The first says that it is not well-matched with your systems hardware, the second "setup could not find any drivers well-matched with your system and will now exit". On the support page it was noted that you must have the machine in Speed mode and not the strength, but I DO have it in speed mode. I've tried it both ways to no benefit.

hi guys, I am new here but I have the same problem with my sony viao. It doesn’t work correctly when my audio is enable. I also detached the partition that was created by the producer but before that I was capable to create a restore disc unhappily I have the same problem. I downloaded the dissimilar drivers but still the same problem...SIGMATEL HD doesn’t work in vista which is working fine, it also uses its own built in HD audio driver/codec but I can't use vista now it’s but not older yet most of my work tools doest work on vista. I’m also starting to regret the replacing of my toshiba with this vaio...HELP.

Sorry never establish a fix other than to stop the device in the device manager. For what its worth the client will be recurring it to Sony, if a fix comes to my notice will be sure to post it. My guess is if you could find an older driver it might work, it was most likely that some sony auto update program that reason it. I also know that the most latest from the moreover sigmatel or the sony site won’t work.

hi guys, I found that the answer and my vaio are now working fine. You can also upgrade it from the company and in my case I just downloaded the bio update and the audio update and it is working fine.
