Intel has recently launched their new Nehalem design based 17 enterprise-class processors especially for servers and workstations. The Xeon processor are being launched in two models - Xeon 3500 and 5500 series for use in servers and workstations. The Intel's Digital Enterprise group showed off the new Xeon processors and talked about the new features being included.
It has included technologies like Intel Turbo Boost, Hyper-Threading, Virtualization, and some more integrated power gates. The dual-socket of Nehalem Xeon 5500 series processors succeeds the Penryn-based Xeon 5400 series processors. Apple had upgraded their new Mac Pro and mention about their new Nehalem chips, which was a bit amazing.

The new Xeon chips featuring memory controller integration was a typical feature on all AMD server products since 2003. The high-speed internal bus and Quick Path Interconnect (QPI) which will change the Front Side Bus interface featured in the current processor design. AMD has claimed that the QPI technology is pretty similar to AMD's Hyper Treading technology.
The new Intel Xeon 5500 series processors will run at a clock speed of 2GHz to 3.2GHz, and the power consumption will differ consequently from 80W to 130W. The new Intel Xeon 5500 processors are designed for use in the servers. And the Intel Xeon 3500 series processors are designed for workstation usage which has the single socket. By next we’ll get the 8 core processor Nehalem-Extreme version.
