The Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 is the most powerful processor and lies almost at the end of the mid-range price tland. Belonging to the 8xxx series, this entry-level quad-core processor is clocked at 2.33 GHz and has a total of 4 MB L2 cache. Under its hood lie two dual-core dies with 2 MB L2 cache each. Being an entry-level part, its feature set doesn't include Intel's Virtualization Technology which is present in Core 2 Duo E8xxx series and Core 2 Quad Q9xxx series onwards.
The Core 2 Duo E8xxx series processors also feature a 6 MB L2 cache which is shared by both the cores. Hence, the Core 2 Duo E8400 costs as much as the Core 2 Quad Q8200-a smart move by Intel to force buyers to buy a high-end dual-core processor. The sheer power of the Q8200 is quite evident by its respectable scores in Cine Bench Rl0 and video encoding. Its closest competitor in the roundup was the Phenom X4 9950 Black Edition, which is on the verge of extinction. And threads simultaneously! Run your fingers through the overall scores and you'll see how powerful this beast of a processor is. Apart from the Core i7 940 which ranks second in the roundup, no other CPU managed to score more than 90 points overall. It took only 15 seconds it doesn't make any sense picking it up with the Q8200 around.
FOR:
Good value for money, excellent score for an entry-level quad-core.
Against:
No Intel Virtualization Technology.
