Alright, so I've been searching the web for about two days demanding to solve my problem as well as have been ineffective. I'm fairly skilled with computers so the reason that I'm am asking here is because the trouble is beyond my knowledge, not because I'm too idle to undertake to figure it out for myself. Believe me, I have tried.
So here's the problem: I just purchased a dell dimension 4500 from a friend in hopes of turning it into a well-mannered (not incredible) gaming computer. I don't really want to play something better than Crysis of war or bf2. When I buy it, it had a 2.2 GHz P4, which is alright but I required to get it as quick as I could so I bought a Northwood (I already know about the Northwood Prescott issue) 2.8 GHz P4.
The processor arrived yesterday as well as I instantly plugged it into my mainboard. I rapidly realized that my computer was booting much slower as well as my first thought was that I the CPU was defective. After a long load time, I got to the control panel plus checked the system settings also they say that my PC is an IP4 2.8 GHz running at 1.4 GHz.
After ineffectively trying to repair the trouble myself I searched the internet for a very long time and finally found out that the 2.8 processor is 533mhz as well as my MoBo is set for 400mhz. Being that my board is an Intel board, I found that I couldn't modify the bus speed whatever because it is locked.
So usually I would just say "ah crap, that sucks" as well as give up, but after more research I found that every particular motherboard spec website I could find says that my MoBo does in fact support CPU with a 533mhz bus speed
So first I tried to flash the BIOS and that it seems that did nothing, then I did a little research on overclocking, but most sources state that it's not feasible with my board.
So this is where I am... Here's the specs
dell dimension 4500
motherboard: Intel d845ept2
CPU: Northwood 2.8ghz Intel Pentium 4
If you need more specs then I will try to dig them up. I make an apology for the long post, but I thought it would be unhelpful if I explained the whole thing I have done so you won't be suggestive of stuff that I've already tried.
Thank you, I actually expect you can help me.
