Default HP pavilion laptop won't boot!

I have a pavilion laptop dv9205 as well as when I turn it on it lights up the keyboard for 30 seconds and after that shut down as well as tries again. This will go on for continually. I hear the fans as well as see the power lights but never boots up. This all started one day when I had left it on and it had all amusing colors on the screen and afterward restarting this is all I find with the power lights trying to start but can't and will reboot as well as try again. Could on board video cause this or would it be the MoBo.

I'm a PC tech, but an older tech taught me this, unplug it, then take the battery out, press the power button a few times, even hold it for 30 seconds or so, then see if it fires up. Every now and then that helps flush out any little bits of electricity/static that may have built up. Hope it helps. I know my wife had an old dell laptop, did somewhat like that, used that way, it booted, also fixed a problem with it shutting down if you moved the screen as well as embayed it for about 200 bucks.

I have previously tried that, it still tries to star for a few seconds as well as then shut down and tries again until I hold the power button down to shut it off. Thanks

What about the memory? In that case, I'd look at memory, then possibly the board. If it's under warranty though, may be time to cash that in.

Ive got the similar problem with my pavilion dv 2000. Ive sent my laptop in to hp for them to repair it 3 times for this exact problem as well as they still could not repair it. Than My networking card gets messed up and I can’t hook up to the internet and I alleged the least they could do is repair the networking problem and THEY CANT EVEN FIX THAT. Than I get my free version of vista from hp just to find out that my laptop is not actually good enough to run vista. So I would like to restore my laptop and put xp back on there but they NEVER SHIPPED MY RECOVERY DISKS!!!!!!! They said that it should at least be on my hard drive but IT WANT. So I had to dish out another $20.00 to restore my laptop and I get a virus and have to restore my pc again!! I have been on with hp chat support at least 10 times for at least 6 unusual main problems that I don’t even want to talk about and they COULD NOT SOLVE A SINGLE 1. I would like to send my laptop back to hp but MY WARRENTY IS OVER!!! Now I get very low frames per second while playing any games because my video card overheats. I will never buy a HP laptop again.

I had the similar trouble on an HP DV9407 laptop that was not incorporated in the extensive warranty program to repair this problem. When I would turn the laptop on all the lights would come on but it would not boot. Took it to a tech place as well as they told me the motherboard needed to be replaced. Here's what I did and this has been a permanent repair on my laptop:

    1) unplug the unit and pull the battery out and leave it out for the time being
    2) reseat the memory
    3) with the battery still out, put the laptop in a plastic garbage bag and stick it in the freezer for about 3 hours
    4) take the unit out and let it come up to room temperature for a half hour
    5) boot up - mine now booted (the problem is a fan problem on the NVIDIA board)
    6) Go to the HP web site
and download the updated bios and flash it, for your laptop (it tells the fan to turn faster)
    7) update, from the HP website, your Nvidia driver and reboot
    8) reinstall the battery and in my case all has been fine for over a month now

Sure better than $200 or more just for a new motherboard.
