Default Which cpu is better ?

I know core i7 is faster, but that's not what i'm looking for I’m looking for a cpu that can play heavy games. And i'm leaning towards amd Phenom ii, since it's cheap - 150 cpu, 100 mobo, 100 memory the core i7 with the same speed costs around 500 plus a mobo around 200 and memory. 100. i want it to be cheap but so it could play heavy games. i will copy different stuff, write on the cds/dvds, etc. i don't need much speed (well, of course i don't want it to be slower than Pentium iii or stuff, but at least [much if possible] faster than my ic2d e7300), just so it could play heavy games, like world in conflict, at least most action games like assassin's creed (both) splinter cell conviction, maybe gta iv, and stuff. what do you say? Will the Phenom 940 make my e7300? Or i'd better get ic2d/q? Since i want it cheap but perfect. In all aspects. thanks.

If you already have a motherboard that supports C2Q it is your cheapest upgrade route, C2Q is still a little faster clock for clock than Phenom II is.

I’m not going to overclock it, i'll play on default speed.

If you have a mobo already that supports 45nm C2Q then just stick with that. Your best bet would probably be a Q9450 or a Q9550. Those chips are made to overclock very well so you might want to look into that but its all up to you.

Btw, you might not notice much of an increase in performance in games if you are using an e7300 because of the fact that most games do not utilize all 4 cores. Although more and more games are getting multi-core optimization so hang in there if you don't see too much improvement.
