I buy this brilliant Q9550 yesterday, and I realized that at default 2.83 idle temperature, was
Core0:48
Core1:41
Core2:44
Core3:44
Is that common on the defaulting fan??

To me those temperatures are okay even though idle temperatures do not show if you have a heating problem.
To show if you have a heating problem, Install Prime95, and run it in little Fit for 7 to 10 mins.
After that time look at the temps. If there above 71°C then you have a heating problem. If it's in the 60 -70 range then your fine.
Well thanks this direct is helpfully.
I just did a Small Fit with prime95 for 10 min, it passed the tests but the temperatures was 79 ranging to 70
Your idle temperatures no doubt are with the stock heat sink. The store heat sinks for the 45 nm Intel CPU's are slighter than those with the unusual 65 mn Core2's. They are good for running at speed.
I suggest the Xigamtek Dark Knight; my Q9550 is OCed to 4.0 with idle temperatures approximately 40C and overloaded temperature approximately 65C maximum.
I have upper temperature on still at default clock speed 2.83 GHz. usually 43 or 45 on all cores except core 0 being always hotter.
I'm running the stock cooler too.
But it doesn't issue to me as whatever I do the temps not at all go more than 68, as well as that only occur when I make on a 3d app. While playing games it goes to 55. Anyhow, why don't you run on more speeder step?
