    Default New PSU

Hi - I posted this in my other thread which is what I thought to had be a difficulty with in my video card, but I thought I might be post it here since I will be buying a authority supply too.

I have around ~$50 to spend - as I went ahead and bought the 9800gt and it is on its way, and I might as well buy a psu too, as I can return the video card if its not the case that my other one isn’t working.

Anyways, I am not sure what kind i will need, I didn’t know certain power supplies have certain hookups etc, I saw some that didn’t have any pci-e power plug-in things (i think, and I think a 9800 or 8800 will require one?)

Here is a list of things I will be running in the computer - EP43-DS3L Gigabyte MOBO - 9800GT - 2 sticks of 2 GB ram - ~4 USB devices - DVD RW in the future (don’t have at present) and 2 fans, can’t think of everything else right now.

I actually don’t know how many watts I would end up needing (maybe somewhere around 500W PSU?), but I would like a good quality one, i know it is probably hard to get for 50 dollars, but just asking anyways.

Oh you wont need a 500W PSU to run that setup...

Even a high quality 400W PSU like the Corsair 400CX or the Antec EA 380W can run that setup without any issues...

I would say the Corsair 400CX is the best option and is sub $50...It can even run HD 4850/ GTS 250 without any issues...

CORSAIR CMPSU-400CX 400W And an simple way to discover out how much power you need.

Well I forget to add that i would be advance the vid card inside the next few months too, to maybe a gtx 260 or something a step or two above the 9800 gt, do you think it would still run one of those?

Frankly I wouldn’t suggest any of those...But out of the lot, that Rosewill 500W looks better...Still would not get my nod though...

I would still suggest the ones that I had linked over any of those...

Or save some more and at least get this one. OCZ Stealth Stream OCZ500SXS 500W
