Here’s some more detailed information about this small Atom processor. The Atom CPU has different code names, 1 for UMPCs and 1 for small desktop computers. The UMPC code is called Silverthrone; which is a single core CPU. It will run around 1.6 to 1.8 GHz, according to the model, and 512 KB cache with a FSB of 533MHz.
The desktop computer code is called Diamondville. Inclusive of both single and dual core flavors as well, topping out at 8 watts. It will be running around 2.3 GHz and support Intel's miniITX platform, named "Little Falls."
Wondering how will it compared with other CPUs? But the performance isn’t that great, it makes the UMPC very slow. It will run around Pentium 3 1.1GHz and a Celeron M 1.8 GHz.
At present the Celeron M is the standard used by most of the UMPCs and which is not a very great performance. May be in future, the Atom CPU will improve and be at least to run Vista without issues. Till then, you’ll mostly get the Atom CPU for the size and heat output.
The next generation of the Atom CPU, will have many more features of the next desktop CPUs. It will be having integrated DDR2 memory controller and a graphics core too. It will minimize the size of the motherboard needed. The next generation of the Atom CPU, code is called "Pineview," and will also have single and dual cores.
