The new 900 series uses the same processor as one in the 700 series, the Intel Celeron (900 MHz). However, the additional feature is that the latest model has 1 GB RAM.

Two storage options are available, both are SSD. Capability is based on the OS chosen; if one selects Linux, the 20 GB of storage. If one selects Windows XP, 12 GB storage space will be available. The difference in storage depends in the Windows user license. Asus and Intel wanted to keep the price of both the models even therefore the cost of a 20 GB user license raised the price, so the 12 GB for Windows.

In place of usual SSD drives, the Eee 900 comes with Samsung memory chips. The Windows version has 4GB in-built memory, with 8GB of Flash, while the Linux version comes with 4GB in-built memory, and 12GB of HDD.
