The Gateway P-172X FX is made for gaming has a wide 1920x1280 resolution because of its 17.1 inch wide display. The image quality is very impressive. The glossy finish on the P-172X FX’s display is not as glossy as other consumer notebooks and also not dull like business notebooks. The gloss is somewhere between both of them.
Watching a movie on P-172X FX is a great experience. Every angle is a pleasure to watch. There’s no need to be seating at the front of the monitor. As mentioned earlier the image quality is very impressive.
The P-172X FX has a very specious keyboard with the separate number pad for simpler access for gamers. The keyboard is finger sensitive, very useful for hardcore game lovers who spend a lot of hours on the machine.
The track pad appears to be very smooth and sensitive to the touch. The track pad’s buttons are also same. One down side is that the track pad is placed awkwardly to the left hand side of the keyboard.
The numeric keys on the P-172X FX are glossy black and red color same as the rest of the computer, making them difficult to read at times, especially in the low light. Another negative point of the keyboard is the left-handed control and function keys. These keys are majorly used while playing, and are difficult to understand why Gateway switched placed it there.
A line of media controls are placed over the keyboard, fixed in the laptop’s metal border. The keys are backlit. They look very attractive in first glance, but if considered functionality they are not that impressive. Setting the volume was easy because of the very sensitive touch sensitive volume slider added in the media controls.
