The exterior design of the D620 was very successful therefore the Dell copied the same for the D630. In the words of the Dell the D630 "designed for the road." Undoubtedly this laptop is built tough. The exterior of the D630 is made of a strong magnesium alloy, allowing this notebook to take care of normal bumps and bruises. The D630 is on the heavier side in comparison with its rivalry weighting about 6 lbs. Dell falls behind the roughness of this laptop, because they added a three-year warranty with the purchase of the D630. One may even buy a four-year warranty from Dell, or Dell's unintentional damage security service, covering all the damage incurred by laptop.

The D630 is very rough. It comes with Strike Zone HDD data protection, protecting the HDD against data loss. Very important while traveling around.

Apart from the D630's tough cover, it has a very sensitive side as well. The keyboard is very responsive, and is very comfortable to type on. There are not too mnay differences between the D630's keyboard and other Dell notebooks available in the market. One nice feature about the keyboard is it’s spill-resistant.

The D630 has a normal 14.1 inch screen as it is destined for gamers and movie junkies with 1440x900 resolution. The brightness of this notebook is impressive, easy to view in low or brightly light circumstances. In-built speakers offer good sound quality.

The D630 comes with a set of inputs/outputs. Audio options are stereo speakers or a headphone or microphone jack. Data transfers can be archived via 1 of the 4 USB 2.0 ports (mini-FireWire, serial port, and smart card reader). This notebook gives a VGA output for video, but it doesn’t have an S-video output. Not surprising as it is more of a business laptop and not a multimedia laptop.

The D630 is relatively efficient laptop. It achieves the EPA standards of energy efficiency, making it energy star efficient. Making its battery life ordinary than the other average laptops.
