If you design and make your own PC, it can be upgraded afterwards with the use of industry-standard parts. That’s something absent from the commercial systems, as few of them are intentionally designed to be incompatible with industry-standard parts. PC manufacturers do this as they want you to purchase upgrade and replacement parts from them, at the price decided by them.
