Default Fundamentals Designing a quiet PC

The present PC performance trend has had certain side effect of making PCs noisier. Faster processors consume more power, which in turn needs larger power supplies. Faster processors even generate more heat, which needs larger CPU coolers. Modern HDD spin faster than older versions, generating more noise and heat. Fast video adapters have their own cooling fans, which again results in more noise.

There are certain ways to reduce the amount of noise generated by your PC. No PC with is quite completely, but significant noise reductions is possible. According to your requirements and budget, you can make a PC that is less noise making. The key to building a quite PC is to identify the sources of noise and to minimizing or eliminating that noise at the source.

The main sources of noise are usually the power supply, the CPU cooler fan, and supplementary case fans. Other sources of noise are the hard drive, the chipset fan, the video adapter fan, and the optical drive. While designing your PC, consider major noise sources first that can be minimized reasonably, then on minor noise sources that are cheap to handle.
