    Default PC Not Working Properly

I have a Pentium 4 machine with 1 GB DDR1 memory and 160 GB hard drive running Windows XP service pack 2. Till yesterday my machine was working perfectly? But this morning I have noticed that when I press the power button, some lights on the cabinet are showing up but the system won't start. I opened the computer cabinet and found that the fans d,on't work and neither does the CDROM tray eject. Even the power supply fan is not spinning. I tried cleaning all the components, but it still won't start. What could the problem be? I suspect the power supply to be dead, but if it is so, then why are some lights working? Please help.

As you have notified that you have cleaned the system from inside, I am sure that the duct is not a cause for the present problem. I suspect the power supply too. There is a high possibility that the power supply is faulty and not supplying 12 V on the yellow rails-this is the reason some lights are working while the fans are not. To find the exact problem, I would Tecommend that you test the power supply using a multi-meter and check if the power output is correct. If you don't have a multi-meter, try using another power supply and check if the system works fine. If it does, you would need to repair the power supply unit. But as the power supply unit is not expensive and can cost a mere Rs 400 to Rs 600, I would advise you to opt fpr a new one. This is because a repaired power supply unit could damage the other compon~nts of the computer in future and the new power supply unit would come along with a two or three year warranty.
