    Default PC is Random flashing

    My PC configuration is:

    • Intel Core 2 Duo E4600

    • Gigabyte S2C 945 GCM mother board

    • 2 GB DDR2 RAM

    • 160 GB HDD Hitachi

    • Samsung DVD writer

    • Intex cabinet (450 W SMPS)

    • Viewsonic 19-inch TFT with

    • D-Sub connector

I have both Windows Vista and XP installed on my system. Whenever I boot in Xp, Windows runs fine. But when I boot into Vista, the monitor goes blank randomly for fraction a second but rest of the time, it's fine. My hard drive activity light flickers without any program running and its operation is noisy too. Also, my operating system keeps failing every now and then. Is a 450-W power supply enough if I want to add an additional hard drive and a graphics card? Also, suggest a mid-ranged graphics card for my configuration.

Windows normally flashes the display just before it boots into the desktop. It shouldn't cause any serious problems. The hard drive LED flickering could be because of highly fragmented data. Try defragging the drive sometime. If the hard drive is really old, it could be an issue with the drive. Try running a diagnostic tool or use Speedfan's internal drive diagnosing feature. The noise and the system instability suggests there's something wrong with it. Backup your data before things get worse. The 450-W PSU will run an additional hard drive easily. Whether it runs the graphics card depends on the kind of card itself. A basic entry-level card won't be a problem, but a high-end card might. Look for a GeForce 9600GT from Gigabyte, ZOTAC or ASUS.

    Hello friends

So I just upgraded my Windows XP laptop to Windows 7 and I thought that all was going well, and for the most part it was. That was until that I noticed that the display would have random horizontal lines a pixel thick start flickering (doesn't totally distort the display, it is just quite annoying. You can still see 99.9% of the display).
The horizontal lines only stay there for an instance. They only happen when the computer is loading various screen. I was wondering if anyone else have been having this problem. I made sure that the driver was up to date.
The only other thing that I could think of is that my graphics card is out of date, or that this RC version is not compatible with my graphics card.
