You have already gone through a brief description of the mouse-its types, ana use of click or double-click on it. Let us now go through a couple of examples for a better understanding of mouse functions. Working with the Mouse. Mouse is a device attached to your system. With the mouse, you can feel at ease while working on your computer. The mouse has three buttons, viz. the left button, the middle button and the right button. In some mouse there i's a roller fixed in place of the middle button. However, shows a roller instead of middle button. The left and the right buttons are used extensively but the middle button is used rarely while working in Windows XP.

To make use of the left and right mouse-buttons, the mouse should be held comfortably inside your palm. If you feel comfortable working with your right hand, place your right hand on the mouse. Then plaCe your first finger on the left mouse-button and the middle finger on the right mouse-button as described earlier in Now, move the mouse over the mouse-pad in any direction. You will notice that as you move the mouse, an arrow(!:t) also moves in the same direction on your screen. This arrow is called the mouse-pointer.
Let us now try working with the mouse by undertaking the following steps:

1. Raise the mouse and place it beneath your right-hand on the mouse-pad.

2. Holdthe mouse with your first finger on the left mouse¬button and middle finger on the right mouse-button.



3.Now move the mouse towards the left-hand side on the mouse-pad, keeping it in contact with the mouse-pad all the while. You will observe that the mouse-pointer ( shifts to the left on your screen.

4. Similarly, move the mouse in other directions by keeping it in contact with the mouse-pad. You will observe that the mouse-pointer on the screen follows the same direction in which the mouse moves on the pad. The mouse measures the distance and direction it has moved across the Desktop and delivers that information to the computer. When the mouse¬pointer does not move with the mouse, it could be either due to a fault in the mouse, or a problem inside the computer.
If while sliding to the left, mouse goes out of the pad then lift the mouse and put it again on the mouse pad. Thereafter, slide it gradually to the left to move the mouse-pointer to the left on the screen.
