Clicking the left mouse-button two times simultaneously is called a double-dick. To double¬click the mouse-button, place your finger on the left mouse-button and then quickly press and release the button two times. On double-clicking, you will hear, a 'tick tick' sound. The double-clicking operation is used to open an icon. As you know, the icons present on Windows XP Desktop are nothing but programs which are closed. For opening any icon, i.e. program, you have to double-click over its corresponding picture button, i.e. icon.
Let us now perform a double-click operation on any icon. Suppose you want to open the My Computer icon present on Windows XP Desktop. To do so, undertake the following steps:
1. Move the mouse in such a way that the mouse-pointer gets displayed over the My Computer icon
2. Now, pressa'nd re/easethe left mouse-button two times as quickly as possible Immediately, the My Computer icon opens up into a window and displays its contents. In the My Computer window has a toolbar called the Standard Toolbar consisting of buttons which are shortcuts to the various commands of Menu bar options.
The My Computer window has many icons. Each icon represents a particular program. For example, the icon for 3Yz Floppy shown in is a program used for showing the contents of a 3Yz inch floppy disk. First, you insert a floppy disk in A: drive. Then double-click the left mouse-button over this icon. Instantly, the contents of the inserted disk get displayed in a window on the screen.
The icon for Local Disk, shown in represents the hard disk. To view the contents of the hard disk, you have to open the Local Disk icon.

2. Now pressthe left mouse-button and release it two times as quickly as possible. Immediately, the Local Disk icon opens up into a window which contains many more icons. shows the contents of the Local Disk l in Windows XP The Hard Disk (C:l is called Local Disk in Windows XP.
3. Each icon inside the Local Disk can be opened by double-clicking over it. For example, for opening the Documents and Settings icon present inside the Local Disk (C:l window double-clickover it. Instantly, this icon opens up to display its contents.
If a CD-ROM is already inserted in your CD drive then double-clicking its icon in the My Computer window will show you the CD¬ROM contents as small icons. These icons can also be opened by double-clicking the left mouse-button over them.
