So far, six major versions of DOS have been released. These versions are numbered as DOS 1, DOS 2 and so on till DOS 6. Besides these, there are several minor revisions, specified by' decimal points. Version 6.22 is the latest in the series. Each version of DOS provides some extra set of features or commands which you can' use.
A new version of DOS comes with every new version of Windows. For example, with Windows 95, we get the DOS version 7.0. These DOS versions however, do not carry extra features for the users and are similar to version 6.22.
If your PC has a DOS version lower than 6 then the commands introduced in the 6th version cannot be used. However, all the commands introduced in a previous version will work in the latter version, i.e. all commands of version 6 will work in version 6.2.
