InThink of the manner in which documents are stored in your office. You may have a filing cabinet which may contain folders pertaining to different projects, clients, or some other groupings. Further, within each folder you may have articles, letters, diagrams, reports, etc. DOS uses a similar storage method.
In DOS, a hard disk is like a filing cabinet. And within that hard disk, you have directories which are areas set aside for storing certain files, such as memos, articles or diagrams. a directory, a file stores the same items in an electronic form which you store in memos, articles or diagrams. In other words, we can say that a hard disk stores the directories and the directories further store the files.
In Windows Me/98, there is a change in the name by which you will address the directories. In Windows Me/98, directories are called as folders. This means that the hard disk contains folders which further contain files. This change does not bring any difference in the working of files in folders as compared to those in the directories of DOS. Both work in the same way. The only difference lies in their names.
