The path is the list of the sub-directories to be covered to reach a file. The path starts from the Root directory. Each directory name is separated by a backs lash. To get to a particular file, you must trace the path from the Root directory to the sub¬directory or the sub-sub-directory and so on, that contains the file. For example, with reference to Fig.D-3, to reach the file JAN 1 inside the sub-sub¬directory Desktop, the path would be as follows.
Let us now interpret the path that we have followed here. First, we start at Root directory and go to Windows sub-directory; then to the Desktop sub-sub-directory; and, finally to the file JANI. Fig.D-4 illustrates this path with broken lines.
