Your music folder is synced with your MP3 player. Your project folders on your lab and home computers are identical. When synchronizing files you are copying files between two computers or storage mediums. For instance, you have a desktop computer and a notebook and have copies of the same files on both.

You may be changing those files either on your desktop or notebook depending on the situation. Let's say you go on a business trip with your notebook and change the files while you are travelling. When you return you want to make sure your desktop and notebook have the latest copies of those files. To do this you would need to synchronize the files.

With synchronization, files are copied from one to the other based on when they were last changed. Files may also be deleted, for instance, you deleted a file on your notebook and want the same file on your desktop to also be deleted. This workshop will show you how to create a profile and perform a backup using
Sync Back. Smart Sync profiles are available in the shareware version of the Sync Back program. Its main advantage is that it remembers what the states of the files were the previous time the profile was run. This means when a Smart Sync profile is run, and there are any differences, that is any files that are different and so need to be copied or deleted, then the 'Differences' window pops up. This gives you an opportunity to change the default action and see what the differences are before any files are copied or deleted.
