Microsoft has announced it'll discontinue the retail version of its Windows Live OneCare security suite, effective from June 30, 2009, and instead offer a free, anti-virus and anti-malware application (currently codenamed "Morro"). This is good news for Windows users everywhere. The biggest losers here would be the major security software developers who run a profitable business selling anti-malware programs to
consumers who use Windows. Apple's been gaining market share, in large part due to the Mac's ability to deliver a relatively malware-free experience and a belief that security should be a core feature of their operating system.
