When producing short documents, it's a pain if just one or two lines are forced onto an extra page. The simplest way of fixing this is to slightly decrease the sizes of the margins (on the File menu, click Page Setup and use the Margins tal1). Other techniques include using smaller fonts, decreasing the line or inter-paragraph spacing and (a clever one) squeezing characters closer together by opening the Format menu, selecting Font and using the options on the Character Spacing tab.
In Word 2007, the Font menu containing the Character Spacing options is on the Home ribbon.
