A problem faced by people who regularly change PC or often reinstall Windows is that of maintaining a bookmark list. Exporting and importing backup lists can be a pain and it's very hard to keep a definitive copy. Using an external web bookmarks list such as del.icio.us or Google Bookmarks enables you to have one list at a particular URL, but it's far handier to handle bookmarks directly in your browser. Step forward Gmarks which connects Firefox to a Google Bookmarks list and provides a Gmarks Menu, Sidebar and toolbar.
You can replace the existing Bookmarks menu and Bookmarks Toolbar folder with Gmarks. With this installed in each version ofFirefox you use, your bookmarks remain permanently synchronised. Choose Gmarks, Options and enter your Google username and password into the General Tab. Switch to Display and select Toolbar. Specify the Google Bookmark Label you want to display in the toolbar. Now choose View, Toolbars, Customise and drag the Gmarks Toolbar icon onto the Bookmarks Toolbar. Bookmark icons on the toolbar are now linked to your Google Bookmarks.
