Default Write a video DVD disc

I have recently purchased and instal ed a DVB USB Stick TV tuner. It works beautifully, has good visual and audio quality and is easy to use. The file extension of the recorded video is .mpg which 1 understand to be Mpeg2. How do I convert this format to the one necessary to record onto DVD so it can be played on my Panasonic DVD player? Is there free or cheap software available for this process? Ideally it would also contain a means of editing out unwanted sections such as commercial breaks.

Mpeg in this context could mean various things, but it's likely to be the Mpeg2 format. Mpeg2 is the same format that's used by all DVD players. If you're using Windows Vista you can use the built-in disc creation software to make a video disc. If not, use a program such as Roxio Easy Media Creator or ero. These are often supplied with CD and DVD writers. Alternatively another piece of disc burning software (perhaps by Cyberlink or Intervideo) might be installed.

All these programs can create a video DVD for use in your set-top box DVD player. Do make sure you burn the discs as video DVDs and not data DVDs. If the TV tuner records in Mpeg4 rather than Mpeg2 '(both formats use the .mpg file extension) the process is much the same, although you will find that it takes significantly longer to make the discs because the computer has to convert the video files before burning them.
