Kanpur has claimed that this technology will prevent hacking incidents like terrorists intruded into the Wi-Fi network of an Mumbai based American to send mails.
The director of the Institute said that this technology has been named as Wireless Intrusion Prevention System (WIPS)and its having the ability to make your Wi-Fi systems and data secure from hackers.

A team of teachers and former students ofthe institute developed WlPS, he added. A member of the team which developed the WIPS, said that terrorists hacked the Wi-Fi system of an American in Mumbai after the Ahmedabad bomb blasts, security agencies did not think of securing
government and business organizations where a large number ofWi-Fi systems were installed.

Earlier, lIT scientists surveyed some offices and business houses in prominent cities for accessible Wi-Fi networks. It was found that even without entering the premises, the Wi-Fi systems ofthese buildings can be accessed and within minutes secured information obtained.

The study also found that majority of the government and private organisations have installed Wi-Fi systems but have not taken any preventive measure against hackers.

The Institute has claimed that if anyone tries to hack information after installing WIPS on a Wi-Fi system inside a building, the sensors first lock the system and then blow off an alarm.
